Tehran, March 21, The Iran Project – The following timeline lists all visits made by senior officials of foreign countries and international organizations including presidents and prime ministers during 1394. Arranged in order of time, the timeline may not reflect all of the visits by top foreign officials to Iran. In total, more than 20 presidents and prime ministers visited Iran during last Persian year.
Farvardin (March 21-April 20):
April 7 - Turkish President trip to Iran
The Turkish President Recept Teyyip Erdoghan was the first visiting high ranking official to Iran in year 1394. Amid speculation that President Erdoghan's trip to Tehran could be cancelled due to his recent anti-Iran remarks, Recept Teyyip Erdoghan arrived in Tehran and was welcomed by his Iranian counterpart at the Sa’dabad Cultural Complex in Tehran. During his one-day presence in Iran he met with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Rouhani to discuss the most important issues of mutual interest as well as regional and international issues.
April 19 - Afghan President's trip to Iran
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani officially welcomed his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Ashraf Ghani at the Sa’dabad Cultural Complex in Tehran. Leading a ranking delegation to Tehran for a two-day visit to the country upon the official invitation of President Rouhani, he confer with a number of ranking Iranian officials including Iran's' Supreme Leader Ayatolah Khamenei and President Rouhani on ways to promote and consolidate mutual cooperation.

May 13 - Iraqi President's trip to Iran
Iraqi President Fouad Massoum, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Tehran for a two-day visit. Iraqi president met with several officials including Iran's Supreme Leader, Iran's President, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, Head of SNSC Ali Shamkhani among others.
Tir (June 22-July 22):
July 1 - IAEA Secretary General's trip to Iran
The IAEA Director General came to Tehran to hold consultations with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the nuclear issue. During his stay in Iran, the IAEA chief is expected to hold talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.
His visit comes as Tehran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the United States, France, Britain, China and Russia – plus Germany were holding talks to finalize the text of a possible deal over Tehran's nuclear program.

September 4 - Kyrgyz President's trip to Iran
Kyrgyzstan’s President Almazbek Atambayev arrived in Tehran on an official invitation of President Hassan Rouhani at the top of a high ranking political-economic delegation aimed at evermore expansion of relations with the Islamic Republic. During his three-day visit of Iran, President Atambayev met with Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, President Rouhani, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Javad Zarif and discussed the most important regional and international developments.
September 7 - Austria President's trip to Iran
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani officially welcomed Austrian President Heinz Fischer as the first Western head of state to visit the Islamic Republic in more than a decade. The leader of Islamic revolution also received the European president during a meeting which was also attended by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani. He conferred the latest regional and international developments in meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Chairman of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and the Speaker of Parliament Ali Larijani. An economic delegation is accompanying Fischer in his trip that comprises representatives of more than 130 Austrian companies to take advantage of Iran’s new atmosphere after the removal of sanctions.
September 20 - IAEA Secretary General first trip to Iran
Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano arrived in Tehran for second time to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on implementing an agreement between Tehran and the UN nuclear watchdog. Amano conferred with President Rouhani and Javad Zarif and head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi during his stay in Iran. He also attended a session of the Parliamentary commission tasked with examining JCPOA.

October 18 - Prime Minister of Iraqi Kurdistan's trip to Iran
In a meeting on the sidelines of a core group meeting of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in the Iranian capital, Zarif and Prime Minister of Iraqi Kurdistan Nechervan Barzani exchanged views about the latest developments in neighboring Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East. He also met with Iran's first vice president Eshaq Jahangiri during his presence in Iran.

November 22 - Venezuelan President's trip to Iran
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro arrived in Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport on Sunday afternoon to attend the 3rd meeting of heads of state of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Rouhani were Iran's high ranking official whom the Venezuelan President met here during his presence in Tehran.
November 22, Turkmen President's trip to Iran
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow arrived in the Iranian capital Tehran to attend the today summit meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). He was received by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in which Iran's leader said that the atrocities committed by Takfiri terrorists have nothing to do with Islam. He also held talks with president Rouhani, signing several MoUs during this meeting.
November 22, Bolivian president's trip to Iran
Bolivia’s President Evo Morales arrived in Tehran’s Mehranbad Airport on Sunday evening for official bilateral meetings and attending the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (CECF) Summit Meeting. He met with Ayatollah Khamenei in which the Iran's leader praised Bolivia’s resistance against the US excessive demands. The high-ranking Bolivian delegation headed by President Evo Morales also held talks with president Rouhani.
November 22, Algerian Prime Minister's trip to Iran
Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal came to Tehran to participate the summit meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). Meeting with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, President Rouhani and Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani were among his plans during his stay in Tehran.
November 23, Nigerian President's trip to Iran
The Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran to take part in the third summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). Along with his participation in that GCEF summit, meeting with Iranian Supreme Leader and president Rouhani were among his visits during his stay in Tehran.
November 23, Iraqi President's trip to Iran
President Foad Massoum planned a Tehran visit to take part in the summit meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) that was held in the Iranian capital. He held talks with Iran's supreme leader and President Rouhani apart from participation in GECF.
November 23, Russian President's trip to Iran
On his first trip to Iran in eight years, Putin, accompanied by his Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, went straight into a meeting with Khamenei, the Islamic republic’s ultimate authority during which Putin presented the rare Quran manuscript to Ayatollah Khamenei during his meeting with the Supreme Leader in Tehran.
Later on the sidelines of the Third summit meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Tehran Iranian and Russian presidents in a meeting in Tehran underlined the need for the further expansion of bilateral ties and mutual cooperation.
November 29, Hungarian Prime Minister's trip to Iran
Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, heading a high-ranking trade delegation arrived in Tehran. The Hungarian premier held talks with top Iranian officials, including Ayatollah Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani to whom he gifted a 175-year old ancient map. He also separately met with first vice president, Eshaq Jahangiri and signed several bilateral agreements.
Dey (December 23- January 20):
January 4 - Afghan Chief Executive's trip to Iran
Afghanistan's Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah arrived in Iran for a three-day visit to discuss issues of mutual interests as well as key regional and international developments with senior Iranian officials. Talks with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, President Rouhani and First Vice President Eshagh Jahangiri were among his meetings in Tehran.
January 18 - Amano second trip to Iran
Amano arrived in Tehran for the third time in year to hold talks with the Iranian officials on strengthening of relations between Iran and the IAEA. Mr. Amano’s visit came immediately after the nuclear accord between Iran and the 5+1 group of countries was put into effect and the sanctions against the Islamic Republic were lifted on Saturday following the IAEA confirmation of Iran’s commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Holding talks with President Rouhani and AEOI head Ali Akbar Salehi were among his official visit in Tehran.
January 19 - Pakistani Prime Minister's trip to Iran
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif arrived in Iran from Saudi Arabian, within hours. Nawaz Sharif left Islamabad for Riyadh the day before on a two-leg tour which brought him to Tehran. During his visit which aimed at mediating between Iran and Saudi Arabia over the recent political crisis, he met with President Hassan Rouhani.

January 22 - Chinese President Xi trip to Iran
Chinese President Xi Jinping paid an official visit to Iran to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on a range of bilateral and regional issues. The Chinese president was welcomed by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif upon his arrival at Mehrabad International Airport. Xi’s Tehran visit took place after 14 years when the then Chinese president Jiang Zemin flew to Iran. He met with Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran's leader and his Iranian counterpart during his stay.
February 7 - Greek Prime Minister's trip to Iran
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras traveled to Iran for a state visit on February 7-8, the prime minister’s press office said Monday. Some 50 Greece businessman, entrepreneurs and industrialists accompanied the Greek premier along with Greece foreign minister, minister of finance and tourism development and deputy foreign minister. Greece official conferred with senior Iranian officials including Iran's Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, President Rouhani, Ayatollah Rafsanjani and Secretary of the SNSC Ali Shamkhani on ways to develop mutual relations and economic cooperation as well as regional and international developments.
February 13 - Ghana President's trip to Iran
Heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama arrived in Tehran on an official visit to hold talks with senior Iranian officials.
Holding talks with Iranian high ranking officials including Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, President Rouhani and parliament (Majlis) speaker, Ali Larijani were parts of this visit which was the first by a Ghanaian president to Iran in 37 years. He also attended a trade and economic meeting of businessmen and enterprises from the two countries.
Esfand (February 20-March 19):
February 23 - Azeri President's trip to Iran
Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, heading a delegation, arrived in Tehran upon an official invitation extended to him by President Hassan Rouhani. Islamic Leader Ayatollah Khamenei received President Aliyev saying promotion of Islam will act as a countermeasure to divisive plots by Takfiri groups. He also participated in a press conference along with his Iranian counterpart president Rouhani during which they agreed to launch cooperation in Caspian see.
February 26 - Swiss President's visit to Iran
Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann accompanied by some 40 investors visited Iran on 26-28 February with an aim to expand Bern-Tehran economic relations following the removal of sanctions. Promoting the Tehran-Bern ties in political, economic, trade, judicial, and cultural fields were among the objectives of the Swiss president’s Iran visit. Apart from meeting with his Iranian counterpart, the Swiss president was received by Ayatollah Khamenei in a meeting during which Iranian leader hailed Swiss independent stances toward Iran. Meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and attending in a session with the University of Tehran's students were among the other European president's plans in Tehran.
March 5 - Turkish Prime Minister's trip to Iran
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu made two-day official visit to Iran to promote ties and smooth out growing differences between the two neighbors over Syria and Iraq. Heading a high-ranking delegation and accompanied by several ministers, government officials and representatives of major Turkish media, he arrived in Tehran to mark the first official visit by a Turkish premier in the wake of the nuclear Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The Turkish official held talks with President Rouhani and vice president Jahangiri on range of issues including Syrian crisis.
March 13 - Vietnamese President's trip to Iran
As the last visit of the year by a foreign top official, Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang arrived in Iran to hold talks with senior Iranian officials. In a ceremony in Sa’adabad Palace on Monday morning, Rouhani welcomed Vietnam’s president and his accompanying delegation to the country. In a meeting with Vietnamese high raking official in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei said world powers are making attempts to meddle with the internal affairs of other countries. He also conferred with Iranian counterpart in a meeting during which Tehran and Hanoi have decided to boost the volume of their trade exchange to $2bn in five years' time.
