Irans policy is establishing regional peace, Larijani says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined that Tehrans foreign policy is aimed at helping establish peace in the Middle East.

Speaking in a meeting with Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann in Tehran on Sunday, Larijani highlighted the importance of establishing security in the region and world, saying, The Islamic Republic of Irans policy is to establish tranquility in the region.

All countries should avoid warmongering and belligerent attitude (towards other nations), because the era of occupation and hegemony is over, he stated.

The Iranian parliament speaker further warned certain regional and Western states that instrumental use of terrorists will cause problems for all countries.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani hailed Tehran-Bern relations as close and said the two countries, which have always enjoyed good ties, have a lot in common on international issues.

The Swiss president, for his part, voiced his countrys willingness to deepen bilateral relations with the Islamic Republic, expressing confidence that a new chapter will open in the history of the relationship in the future.

Heading a high-ranking political, economic and scientific delegation, Schneider-Ammann arrived in Iran on Friday evening.

His trip marks the first-ever visit to Iran by a Swiss president.

The visit follows the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached in July 2015.

There has been growing enthusiasm for closer ties with Iran after the JCPOA took effect on January 16, terminating all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.
