Campus protest stops speech by former Ahmadinejad minister
Reports from Tabriz University indicate that a speech given on campus by Mohammad Hossein Safar Herendi, a former Keyhan editor-in-chief and minister of Culture Guidance under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was interrupted and cut short by protesting students.
The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that the students chanted slogans about freedom of speech and association, and against gender discrimination and oppression. The students also called for the release of political prisoners.

According to the report, Basij and security forces swarmed the hall, tore up the students placards and physically disrupted the protest.

At that point, protesters reportedly left the hall and began chanting slogans outside the building.

The report adds that a number of students have been summoned in recent days by the university security office.
