Iran, Lebanon discuss mutual ties
Irans Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and Lebanon Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri have reviewed the significant bilateral issues and regional developments.

Amirabdollahian met and held talks with Nabih Berri in Beirut on Thursday.

During the meeting, the two sides called for strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation and exchanged views on the most important developments in the region and the world.

Upon his arrival in Beirut late on Wednesday, Amirabdollahian told reporters that Iran considers the security of Lebanon as the security of its own and the region.

The top Iranian diplomat is vising Lebanon on the second leg of his regional tour that earlier took him to Oman where he held talks with senior officials on bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

Amirabdollahian is on an official two-day visit to Lebanon, where he is expected to hold talks with senior Lebanese officials, including Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

Since late 2019, Lebanon has been mired in a deep financial crisis that has caused the Lebanese pound to lose around 90 percent of its value to the US dollar and led its banking system to collapse, plunging the bulk of Lebanese into poverty.

The economic and financial crisis is mostly linked to the sanctions that the United States and its allies have imposed on Lebanon and Wests intervention in the Arab nations domestic affairs.
