president.ir- The president opened the 110-kilometer long Firouzan-Kermanshah railway on Tuesday, hours before the turn of the new year.

Dr Hassan Rouhani appeared in Kermanshah Railway Station and opened the Firouzan-Kermanshah railway project, ordering the first passenger train to leave Kermanshah for the holy city of Mashhad.

When opening the project, the president said: "I open the project of connecting Kermanshah railway to the national railway network by appealing to the spirit of His Holiness Ali (PBUH)�.

Dr Rouhani also ordered the Kermanshah-Mashhad train to leave and congratulated the people of Kermanshah, saying: "I announce the start of first trip of Kermanshah train from this beautiful city to Mashhad�.

The west railway project starts from Samangan Station for 605 kilometres and passes through Malayer, Nahavand, Kangavar, Sahneh, Kermanshah, Islamabad-e Gharb, Gilan-e Gharb and Qasr-e Shirin and reaches to Khosravi town located on the border of Iran and Iraq. It is then connected to the port of Lattakia through Khanaqin, Baghdad, Mosul, Qamishli, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa and Aleppo.
