Press TV- An explosion at the largest US airbase in Afghanistan�s Bagram has killed at least four American troops and injured 14 others.�

The blast, claimed by the Taliban, took place at�5:30 am (0100 GMT) on Saturday. A NATO statement said at least four people were killed and 14�injured in the�blast, which occurred near a dining facility.

Local media said�a man dressed as a laborer gained�access to the heavily-protected compound�before detonating an explosive�vest.

Bagram district governor Abdul Shakoor Quddusi said the explosion was so powerful that it reverberated across the area.

Taliban�spokesman�Zabihullah Mujahid�claimed�responsibility for the attack in a message on his Twitter�account.

The airbase in Bagram close to the capital Kabul�has frequently come under attack by Taliban militants. A�militant detonated his explosives near the base last December, killing�six US soldiers.

The Saturday attack came after Taliban militants hit�the German consulate�in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif late on Thursday night�which killed four people and wounded more than 100 others.

The group said the attack in Mazar-i-Sharif was in�retaliation for airstrikes near the northern city of Kunduz�last week which killed more than 30 civilians.

The bombings�underline the precarious security situation in Afghanistan which has seen Taliban stepping up their�insurgency and Daesh terrorists expanding their foothold in the country amid�the presence of foreign troops.
