Press TV- An explosion at the largest US airbase in Afghanistan’s Bagram has killed at least four American troops and injured 14 others.
The blast, claimed by the Taliban, took place at 5:30 am (0100 GMT) on Saturday. A NATO statement said at least four people were killed and 14 injured in the blast, which occurred near a dining facility.
Local media said a man dressed as a laborer gained access to the heavily-protected compound before detonating an explosive vest.
Bagram district governor Abdul Shakoor Quddusi said the explosion was so powerful that it reverberated across the area.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack in a message on his Twitter account.
The airbase in Bagram close to the capital Kabul has frequently come under attack by Taliban militants. A militant detonated his explosives near the base last December, killing six US soldiers.
The Saturday attack came after Taliban militants hit the German consulate in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif late on Thursday night which killed four people and wounded more than 100 others.
The group said the attack in Mazar-i-Sharif was in retaliation for airstrikes near the northern city of Kunduz last week which killed more than 30 civilians.
The bombings underline the precarious security situation in Afghanistan which has seen Taliban stepping up their insurgency and Daesh terrorists expanding their foothold in the country amid the presence of foreign troops.
