Iran, Russia to enhance cooperation to stabilize situation in Mideast

The Russian and Iranian foreign ministers accorded to further stregthen bilateral collaboration in favor of stability and security in the Middle East, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) The Russian and Iranian foreign minsters agreed to further enhance bilateral cooperation to secure stability and security in the Middle East, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif met on the sidelines of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) in Munich on Thursday.

"[The top diplomats] confirmed mutual intention to further strengthen the Russian-Iranian cooperation in the interests of ensuring stability and security in the Middle East," the ministry statement reads.

According to the ministry, Lavrov and Zarif exchanged views on a number of international and regional political issues.
The ISSG meeting was held ahead of this years Munich Security Conference (MSC) focusing on conflict prevention. The three-day MSC is set to begin on Friday.
