MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian and Iranian foreign minsters agreed to further enhance bilateral cooperation to secure stability and security in the Middle East, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif met on the sidelines of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) in Munich on Thursday.

"[The top diplomats] confirmed mutual intention to further strengthen the Russian-Iranian cooperation in the interests of ensuring stability and security in the Middle East," the ministry statement reads.
According to the ministry, Lavrov and Zarif exchanged views on a number of international and regional political issues.
The ISSG meeting was held ahead of this year’s Munich Security Conference (MSC) focusing on conflict prevention. The three-day MSC is set to begin on Friday.
