Kyrgyz president condoles Iran over Mina tragedy

Tehran, Oct 3, IRNA - Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambayev in a message on Saturday expressed grief to his counterpart President Hassan Rouhani on the death of Iranian pilgrims in Mina.

Atambayev also offered Kyrgyzstans deepest sympathy to the families of the victims.

He also wished for swift recovery of the injured, and patience for the bereaved families.

The Mina disaster occurred on September 24 when according to reports two large groups of pilgrims arrived together at a crossroads in Mina, a few kilometers east of Mecca, on their way to performing the 'stoning of the devil' ritual at Jamarat.

As a result of the stampede, more than 4000 people were killed and another 4,000 injured. 465 Iranian pilgrims have been confirmed dead with 14 wounded.

The event serves to raise the name of Hajj victims in the world and initiated a wave to condemnation of the incompetence and mismanagement of the Saudi officials in managing Muslims' largest annual ritual.
