Austria president due in Iran next week

Austrian President Heinz Fischer is to pay an official visit to Iran next week, the first by a European head of state after the conclusion of a nuclear agreement between the Islamic Republic and six world powers.

The Austrian president will arrive in Tehran on September 7 at the head of a delegation for a three-day state visit.

Fischers trip will take place at the invitation of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani with the purpose of discussing ways to improve Tehran-Vienna relations.

The Austrian president plans to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart, Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, speaker ofMajlis (parliament)Ali Larijani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

He will also visit historical and cultural sites of the central Iranian city of Isfahan.

Fischers plannedtrip to Tehran comes 11 years afterformer President Thomas Klestil traveled to Tehran.

Iranand the P5+1 group of countries - the United States, Britain, France, Russia,China and Germany -succeeded in finalizing the text of the nuclear agreement, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in Vienna on July 14.

Under the JCPOA, limits will be put on Irans nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all economic and financial bans, against the Islamic Republic.
