The 67th edition of Cannes International Film Festival has honored the years winners during an awarding ceremony.The Palme d'Or award went to the Turkish conversational epic Winter Sleep directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan. The film gained strong critical reactions after screening at the festival.
Ceylan dedicated the prize "to the young people in Turkey and those who lost their lives during the last year."
The winners of other eight categories including best actor, actress, finest screenplay and best use of grunts were also honored during the ceremony held last night, May 24.
Julianne Moore won Best Actress for her turn in David Croneneberg's Hollywood satire Maps to the Stars while the British actor Timothy Spall received Best Actor award for his performance in Mike Leigh's biopic Mr Turner.
This year's Jury Prize was shared between Xavier Dolan's Mommy and Jean-Luc Godard's Goodbye to Language.
World-famous Iranian actress Leila Hatami served at the jury panel of the festival presided by the New Zealander woman filmmaker Jane Campion.
Hatami collaborated with Sofia Coppola (American director), Willem Dafoe (American actor), Carole Bouquet (French actress) and Gael Garcia Bernal (Mexican filmmaker) as the jury members of the Competitive section of this years festival.
Eminent auteur Abbas Kiarostami is another Iranian cineaste at the years Cannes film festival that presided over Cinfondation and Short Films jury.
The 67th annual Cannes Film Festival took place in the southern France resort town from May 14 through 25.
