TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian and Algerian officials in a meeting in Algiers conferred on ways to develop security cooperation between the two countries, and laid emphasis on exchanging experiences in this regard.


The issue was discussed in a meeting between Iran's Police Chief Brigadier General Esmayeel Ahmadi Moqaddam and Director General of Algeria's National Security Major General Abdul-Ghani Hamel in Algiers on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the two sides also explored avenues for more cooperation between the two countries in fighting terrorism, drugs, illegal immigration and other police activities.

After their talks, the two officials underlined the good political relations between the two Muslim and revolutionary countries, and announced their determination to exchange experience and cooperation in different fields, including combat on drugs, terrorism and organized crimes.

In recent years, Iran has sought hard to boost ties and cooperation with Africa.

Iran is an observing member of the African Union (AU) and has shown an active presence in previous AU summit meetings.

Late in February, Iran's first Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and Algerian Deputy Foreign Minister Abdolmajid Abu Guerra stressed the need to expand Tehran-Algiers relations in all sectors.

In a meeting in Tehran at the time, Jahangiri hailed friendly ties between Iran and Algeria, calling for regular consultations between the Iranian and Algerian officials.

Jahangiri expressed hope that the next Iran-Algeria joint cooperation commission would lead to finding a roadmap for promotion of relations.

He further voiced Iran's readiness to share its experiences with Algeria in different fields, such as electricity generation and construction of power plants.

The Iranian official criticized the low level of trade between the two countries, calling for enhanced trade and economic cooperation.

The Algerian official, for his part, underlined the necessity of expansion of bilateral relations, particularly in energy and trade areas.
