TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Ambassador to Afghanistan Mohammad Reza Bahrami warned Pakistan of foreign parties' attempts to darken ties between Tehran and Islamabad, and advised Islamabad to avoid impairing its friendly relations with Iran for the sake of Saudi Arabia."The relations between Pakistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran are too important to be harmed for (Islamabad's ties with) Saudi Arabia," Bahrami said, addressing a round table on the relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in Tehran on Wednesday.
He said certain internal streams in Pakistan have preferred Riyadh to Tehran in security issues, and added, "in parts of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan extremism is used as a tool", referring to the two countries' support for terrorist groups in the region, specially in Afghanistan and Syria.
Bahrami warned Islamabad officials to take good care not to allow internal rivalries of other states spread to Pakistan.
His remarks came after the recent security incidents in the bordering areas of Iran and Pakistan by a Saudi-backed militant group, known as Jeish Al-Adl.
Jeish Al-Adl has been responsible for a number of recent terrorist operations in Southeastern Iran. The group always escapes to Pakistan after conducting operations in Iran. In the most recent case, it abducted five Iranian border guards in Jakigour region of Irans Sistan and Balouchestan province on February 6. The five were taken to Pakistan by the al-Qaeda-affiliated group. Four of them were released in April but the fifth one has been kept hostage and there is no news about his fate.
In October 2013, Irans Deputy Interior Minister Ali Abdollahi laid emphasis on the implementation of the security agreement signed by Tehran and Islamabad, and urged Pakistan to implement it.
He called for more serious measures by the Pakistani side to control its borders to curb terrorist activities.
