TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Deputy Road Minister Mohsen Pour Seyed Aqayee announced that the infrastructural work has been done for launching a railway corridor which links Iran, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and China.
"Two parts of the path are in Iran's territories and two parts are in Afghanistan and at present, the foundations have been laid in Iran's territories and the furnishing operations have started," Pour Seyed Aqayee told FNA on Wednesday.

He said that the operation for laying the foundations in the third part which is 63km in length and is located in Afghanistan have also been completed by Iran and it is ready for furnishing works.

Pour Seyed Aqayee also underlined that the fourth part of the corridor in Afghanistan will be launched by Iran once the Afghan government starts financing the project.

In relevant remarks in March, Deputy Managing Director of Iranian Railway Hossein Ashouri said the Iran-Afghanistan railroad will be completed by the end of the next Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2015).

"It is hoped that Khaf-Harat path would be accomplished by next year, and load and cargo would be transferred via railroad directly," Ashouri said.

Iran is one of the most important donors to Afghanistan which has kept its promises to help to the reconstruction of the war-hit country.

Iran has built some roads, power transmission lines, and border stations, among the other infrastructure projects which would better link the two nations.

Iran has also contributed more than $50mln annually to Afghan anti-narcotics efforts in the last decade.
