Tehran, April 21, IRNA Deputy head of Iran?s Medical Council on supervision and planning, Mohammad Jahangiri, said Monday that Iran?s revenues from health tourism last year were ten times higher than its revenues from exports of medical equipment and medicines.
Jahangiri?s remarks come as Iran is preparing to hold an exhibition on medical equipment in the next few weeks.
Jahangiri said that Iran?s Medical Council is going to include, for the first time, health tourism in the 17th Iran Health Exhibition.
Given Iran?s high status in medical sciences in the region on the one hand and low costs of medical services in Iran in comparison with other countries, on the other, health tourism can be considered as one of the main source of income for the country, Jahangiri said.
Iran Health which is the second-biggest exhibition on medical equipment after Arab Health, provides this year a number of Iranian hospitals, centers for limited surgery and travel agencies with opportunity to introduce their activities in line with promotion of health tourism in Iran, he added.
Major domestic and foreign producers of medical equipment are to participate in Iran Health slated for May 15-18 in Tehran.
