Iran says an American plane which landed in Tehrans Mehrabad Airport was operated by Ghana and was carrying a high-ranking Ghanaian delegation to the Islamic Republic.
The New York Times reported on Friday that a corporate jet, owned by the Bank of Utah, with a small US flag on its tail, was parked in Mehrabad Airport in Tehran.
This plane was carrying a high-ranking delegation from Ghana and according to an announcement by the countrys government, the jet was in possession of the US and chartered by Ghanas presidency, Irans Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Friday.
The passengers of the plane comprised a delegation of Ghanaian officials headed by the brother of the countrys president, and none of its crew were Americans, she added.
Afkham said the Ghanaian delegation held talks with Iranian officials before leaving the country on Thursday.
