No proof of death of kidnapped Iranian border guard

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Border Police Commander General Hossein Zolfaqari said there has been no evidence that an Iranian border guard abducted by a terrorist group has been killed.

We have received no proof as yet about the martyrdom of Sergeant Danaeifar, General Zolfaqari said on Saturday.

He said the death of Danaeifar is only a claim made by the terrorist group and that different measures are underway (to determine his fate).

Jamshid Danaeifar, along with four other Iranian border guards, was kidnapped on February 6 by a Pakistani-based terrorist group named the Jaish-ul-Adl.

They were abducted in Jakigour region in Irans southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan and taken to Pakistan.

Four of the five border guards were released and returned home on Sunday after being held hostage for two months. The fate of the fifth still remains unaccounted for.

On March 23, Jaish-ul-Adl announced in a Twitter message that it had killed Danaeifar but the terrorist group has provided no evidence to confirm its claim. The four released border guards said that Danaeifar had been separated from them for nearly a month.

Irans Foreign Ministry announced in a Sunday statement that it will keep up efforts to shed light on the fate of Danaeifar.
