Iran climb up in world ranking

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Islamic Republic of Iran has climbed five positions in new edition of the FIFA rankings to land in the 37th spot in the world.
According to the latest monthly rankings released on 10 April 2014, the Iranian team collected 715 points and stood at the first place among Asian teams.

The Iranians are followed by the Japan, Uzbeks and Korea Republic who occupy the 47th, 53th and 56th spots respectively with 613, 577 and 551 points.

Spain remain the top-ranked football team in the world with 1,460 points.

Europe occupies the top three places on the new world ranking after Portugal climbed third behind leaders Spain and Germany.

They are followed by four South American sides in Colombia (4th, up 1), Uruguay (5th, up 1) and fierce rivals Argentina (down 3) and Brazil (up 3), who share sixth position.

Greece return to the top ten for the first time since October 2012, while Scotland (22nd, up 15) are the only team to have climbed over ten places.

Two teams managed to reach their highest-ever positions: Azerbaijan (85th, up 6) and Afghanistan (122nd, up 5).

The next FIFA World Ranking will be published on 8 May 2014.
