The naval forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan have kicked off joint maneuvers in the strategic Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.
On Tuesday morning, select units of the Iranian Navy and the Pakistani fleet of warships, which had earlier docked at Irans southern port city of Bandar Abbas, began their joint naval drill in the eastern waters of the Strait of Hormuz.
On April 5, the Iranian Navys second-in-command for operations, Rear-Admiral Shahram Irani, said the Pakistani flotilla is comprised of a missile-launcher warship, a logistic warship and an advanced submarine.
The Pakistani fleet is conveying a message of peace and friendship and will help boost military cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad, according to the Iranian commander.
On Monday, the Iranian and Omani navies also staged a joint rescue and relief naval exercise in the Sea of Oman in an effort to enhance readiness for providing relief services and rescue operations and improve the level of regional cooperation.
In recent years, Irans Navy has increased its presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and tankers.
