Lawmakers warn against EP counterproductive actions

Tehran, April 6, IRNA Iranian lawmakers, in a statement issued on Sunday, warned against negative effect of European Parliament (EP) counterproductive actions.
Speaking to IRNA, member of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis Mohammad Hassan Asafari noted that 200 Majlis lawmakers have already signed the statement condemning the recent anti-Iran EP resolution.

?In the meantime, 100 representatives have signed a petition which asks the government and Parliament to take appropriate measures against the EP irresponsible action,? the MP said, stressing that the EP anti-Iran resolution was a historical mistake.

?EP resolution is a clear interference in Iran?s internal affairs; EP should prove its honesty by issuing a resolution against violation of human rights in Guantanamo prison, genocide of Muslims in Central Africa, Syria and Myanmar.?

EP passed a resolution on April 7 that expressed concern over the alleged violation of human rights in Iran.

It claimed that Irans presidential election in June 2013, which led to the victory of Hassan Rouhani, was not held according to the EU democratic standards.

Iran has dismissed the resolution as unrealistic and counterproductive at a time when the Islamic Republic and the EU have taken initial steps to normalize bilateral relations.
