Irans Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has praised the defensive capabilities of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, saying the Zionist regime of Israel is unlikely to launch a new war against Lebanon.Speaking with Al-Mayadeen TV on Sunday, Larijani said that Hezbollah has enough experience, power and strength to defend Lebanon and that Tel Aviv is unlikely to repeat its past mistakes to open a new war front against Lebanon.
The Tel Aviv regime launched two wars on Lebanon in 2000 and 2006. About 1,200 Lebanese, most of them civilians, were killed in the 33-Day War of 2006.
On both occasions, however, Hezbollah fighters defeated the Israeli forces and Tel Aviv was forced to retreat without achieving any of its objectives.
The Israelis aim to undermine security and stability in the Middle East, and that it falls upon Islamic countries to restore stability to the region, the parliamentarian further noted.
Commenting on relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, Larijani said Tehran sees no reason for confrontation with Riyadh although there are differences in approaches and viewpoints.
He said that Iran and Saudi Arabi share many common interests, adding efforts should be made based on commonalities and strategies in order to enhance unity among Islamic states.
Last week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed the countrys determination to improve ties with neighboring Muslim countries, saying cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia will be vital to regional security.
Interaction and cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia can undoubtedly be effective for the stability and security of the entire [Middle East] region, Rouhani said in a meeting with the new Saudi Ambassador to Tehran Abdulrahman bin Gharman al-Shihri.
