Tehran, March 9, IRNA � EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton who is on a visit to Iran, met and conferred with secretary of Iran?s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, on Sunday.
Ashton arrived in Tehran on Saturday for an official visit at the invitation of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Ashton has held talks with Foreign Minister Zarif, President Hassan Rouhani, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and former SNSC secretary Saeed Jalili during her stay in Tehran.

This is the first visit to Tehran by Ashton who is also chief nuclear negotiator of the P5+1 with Iran over its nuclear program.

During her meetings with Iranian officials, the EU foreign policy chief discussed Iran-EU ties.

Ashton is scheduled to travel to historical city of Isfahan in central Iran on Monday to visit archeologial sites of the city.
