Vingada close to coach Iran U-23 soccer team

TEHRAN, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Nelo Vingada reached a preliminary agreement with Iran's Football Federation on Saturday to coach the country's U-23 soccer team, Tehran Times daily reported on Sunday.
"We are in the final stages. I am very close to a final agreement with the Iran Football Federation," Vingada was quoted as saying.

"I've reached a verbal agreement with the Iranian party. I will travel to Tehran within the next week for further negotiations," the 60-year-old Portuguese said.

Vingada has already worked in Iran twice. In 2009, he led Iranian soccer club Persepolis. He also was appointed as the assistant of Carlos Queiroz just in the national team match against Qatar in the 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Iran's U-23 is without a coach since the team failed to qualify for the 2012 Olympics under the Iranian coach Alireza Mansourian.
