Ashton arrives in Tehran

Tehran, March 8, IRNA The EU foreign policy chief Catherein Ashton, accompanying a politico-economic delegation, arrived in Tehran on Saturday to hold talks with Iranian officials.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbass Araqchi welcomed Ashton and her entourage at the airport.

Ashton is paying the visit to Tehran at the invitation by Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif.

Ashton is scheduled to confer with President Hassan Rouhani, foreign minister Zarif, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, the head of the Strategic Research Center affiliated to the Expediency Council, Ali-Akbar Velayati, on Iran-EU relations and the negotiations underway between Iran and Group 5+1 over the nuclear issue.

Talking to IRNA, Deputy Foreign Minister for Euro-America Affairs Majid Takht-e Ravanchi said expansion of relations between Iran and the European Union will be on the agenda of Ashtons negotiations with Iranian officials in Tehran.

Takht-e Ravanchi said that Ashton will have working lunch with Zarif on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the EU foreign policy chief will tour Isfahan historical monuments on Monday.

Asked whether the nuclear dispute will be raised in Ashton?s meeting with the Iranian officials, Takht-e Ravanchi said naturally, the nuclear issue will surface in the meeting with the Iranian officials.
