Iranians have largely contributed to preserving the nature by planting trees during a week designated for that purpose, Press TV reports.
Millions of Iranians plant trees to mark the Tree Planting Week, starting on March 6, and hail the arrival of the spring.
The tree planting event is marked every year just ahead of the advent of the Persian New Year, which starts on March 21.
The nationwide tree plantation campaign is aimed at protecting the environment and fighting air pollution especially in major cities.
In the capital, Tehran, the Municipality distributed free saplings.
As usual, the event was marked by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei planting a sapling in Tehran.
I ask the people to take care of the green space. Every Iranian, one tree is a good motto. People should promote tree-planting during this week, the Leader said.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also planted a tree in the capital, saying his administration is focusing on environmental challenges.
Iranians across the country showed pleasure with the event.
Today is the tree planning day, every Iranian should plant a tree. Our country will be much greener, said a citizen of Tehran after planting a tree.
