Zarif: Ukrainian people themselves should decide their fate

Tehran, March 1, IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Saturday that the Ukrainian people themselves should decide their fate.
He made the remarks in joint press conference with his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski.

Iran believes that foreign interference in Ukraine has exacerbated the situation, he said.

On Tehran-Warsaw relations, Zarif said that political, cultural and economic relations between Iran and Poland dated back to over 500 years ago.

Iran and Poland signed a memorandum of understanding to boost trade and develop pharmaceutical cooperattion.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional developments, such as Ukraine and Syria, nuclear talks between Iran and G5+1 or EU 3+3.

He called for enhancing the level of economic cooperation.

Zarif expressed the hope that the visit to Tehran of the Polish foreign minister to Tehran would prepare the ground for expansion of relations between the two countries.

Iran is ready to broaden cooperation with Poland, he said adding that there are many untapped capacities which should be explored to develop economic cooperation.

On cultural cooperation, Zarif said that Iran and Poland can cooperate on exchange of university students.

The Polish foreign minister arrived in Tehran on Friday and visited Isfahan yesterday.
