13 Killed, 19 Injured in N. Iraq Attacks

TEHRAN (FNA)- At least 13 people were killed and 19 others injured in a string of attacks that rocked Northern Iraq on Wednesday, security sources said.
A militant blew himself up with an explosive-laden car, targeting a military checkpoint in Ninawa province, taking his own life along with two army troops, Haberler.com reported.

The attack also left four troops wounded, an army source said.

In provincial capital Mosul, security forces killed three militants who attacked a checkpoint in the Southern Bou Fashka district, the source added.

Also in Mosul, seven civilians were injured in a grenade attack by an unidentified militant in Suez Intersection, he added.

Meanwhile, police found two bodies riddled with bullets in the head and chest in Teena district, 35km South of Mosul, he said.

In the Northern province of Diyala, four people were killed and as many injured when an explosive charge struck a minibus carrying civilians in Kanaan, 18km East of Baqubah, local official Mahdi al-Shemari said.

Militants also opened fire on civilians in Muqdadiyah, killing one and injuring another, the official added.

Three more civilians were injured when a booby-trapped car exploded in Bani Saad town, 20km Southwest of Baqubah, Abdel-Rasoul al-Husseini, head of the town's council, said.

Recent months have seen an uptick in violence across Iraq.

Although most attacks go unclaimed, Iraqi authorities usually blame Al-Qaeda-linked militants.
