Iran expresses concern over violence in Ukraine
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has expressed serious concern over the ongoing violence in Ukraine, one day after deadly clashes left over two dozen dead in Kiev.
The ministry spokeswoman, Marzieh Afkham, on Wednesday warned that foreign meddling in Ukraines internal affairs could deepen divisions and aggravate the situation in the country.

She also described the deadly clashes between Ukrainian police and protesters as regrettable, calling on both sides to end the crisis through dialog and national reconciliation.

Afkhams comments come a day after 26 people were killed and many more injured in clashes between police and protesters at a protest camp in the Ukrainian capital.

The latest wave of clashes erupted after a deadline set by security authorities to end the protests expired.

Earlier on Wednesday, France and Germany said the European Union would discuss imposing sanctions on Ukraine, with both countries calling for targeted measures against the Ukrainian leadership.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State John Kerry reiterated the possibility of applying sanctions against Kiev.

Russia, on the other hand, has condemned the ongoing protests in Ukraine as an attempted coup.

Ukraine has been experiencing anti-government protests since President Viktor Yanukovych refrained from signing an Association Agreement with the EU on November 29 last year in favor of closer ties with Russia.

Kiev and Moscow reached a strategic economic and trade deal last December, which provides Ukraine with significant discounts on imported Russian gas and billions of dollars in credit.
