The sedition and its related issues are fully internal cases and the security and judiciary confrontation with them was made completely within the framework of law and the US and the Wests meddling in this issue is actually interference in the internal affairs of an independent country, Amoli Larijani said, addressing a number of judiciary officials in Tehran on Wednesday.
On Feb. 14, the US State Department issued a call on Tehran to release the three political figures, Mir Hossein Mousavi, his wife Zahra Rahnavard and Mehdi Karroubi, who have been under house arrest since 2011 for the role they played in 2009 unrests after the presidential election.
The United States' explicit support for the seditious move was outside the normal frameworks and the recent remarks by the westerners and the US leaders about the sedition is even more surprising, and we state very firmly that this is meddling in the Islamic Republic of Irans affairs and is not acceptable at all, Amoli Larijani said.
Stressing that Iran has confronted and treated those involved in the 2009 unrests based on the law, he expressed regret that the western leaders, specially the Americans, make such statements while they themselves have committed the most horrifying violations of human rights, including in Guantanamo prison, Afghanistan, Iraq and Bahrain.
Amoli Larijani said that the Americans claim support for human rights in other countries, while they are pressuring the Afghan government to ink a security agreement with them which allows them to bomb any part of Afghanistan and kill innocent people.
After official announcement of the election results on June 13, 2009, supporters of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's main rival Mir Hossein Moussavi - who rejected the results - took to the streets of Tehran and other cities in daily rallies.
But later, millions of Iranian people as well as the Iranian police, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and Basij (mobilized volunteer) forces staged a strong presence and ended weeklong demonstrations and unrests in the capital.
