Fajr film festival honor international section winners


The 32nd edition of Iran's most important film presentation and competition event, Fajr Film Festival, has announced names of the winners of the international section.

Dutch filmmaker Jaap van Heusdens dramaThe New Worldnabbed the Best Film Award of the international section of the 2014 Fajr film festival.

Heusdens film narrates the story of a middle-aged cleaner Mirte who lives at a Dutch center for asylum seekers.

Turkish filmmaker Reis Celik received the festivals Crystal Simorgh for Best Director for his screen creationNight of Silence.

The Crystal Simorgh for Best Actor went to Issaka Sawadogo, while Bianca Krijgsman won a Crystal Simorgh for Best Actress for their roles inThe New World.

The Crystal Simorgh for Best Technical or Artistic Achievement was presented to Kazakh director Ermek Tursunov forThe Old Man.

The festivals Jury Special Award went to the Russian director and screenwriter Yuri Bykov for his movieThe Major.

The Jury also honored Iranian director and screenwriter Ebrahim Hatamikia for his latest bio filmChe.

The festival also honored the winners of the Inter-Religion Section held on the sidelines of the event.

The Palestinian filmmaker Hany Abu-Assad won the Best Director Award for his Oscar-nominated filmOmar.

The categorys Best film Award was presented to the Georgian director Zaza Urushadze's filmTangerines.

Kazakh director and screenwriter Emir Baigazin was honored with the Special Jury Award forHarmony Lessons.

The sections Golden Flag Award went to the Iranian director Ahmad Reza Darvish for his movieHussein, Who Said No.

The Oscar-winning Italian cinematographer Vittorio Storaro was also honored with a lifetime achievement award.

The winners were honored during a ceremony held at Parsian Azadi Hotel in Tehran.

The programs of other sections of the years Fajr film festival will come to an end on February 11, 2014.
