Iran has condemned the latest US sanctions against nearly three dozen companies and individuals for business with Iran in the run-up to the upcoming nuclear talks.The move by the US government is another instance of the countrys ill intention in the run-up to the future nuclear negotiations and it is indicative of the fact that the United States seeks to impose a new negative atmosphere on the talks just ahead of the new round of negotiations, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Friday.
Not only will the measure end in failure, it will be also followed by the Islamic Republic of Irans reciprocal action, Afkham added.
The US Treasury Department said on Thursday that the targeted entities operated in Turkey, Spain, Germany, Georgia, Afghanistan, Iran, Liechtenstein and the United Arab Emirates.
David Cohen, top Treasury sanctions official, also warned that companies and governments still risk heavy penalties if they expand trade with Iran.
On Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry also slammed the latest US sanctions as a violation of international law.
Iran and the six major world powers the United States, Russia, China, France, the UK, and Germany signed a nuclear deal in Geneva, Switzerland, last November to pave the way for the full resolution of the Wests decade-old standoff over Tehrans nuclear energy program. The two sides started to implement the agreement on January 20 and aim to continue negotiations for a final comprehensive deal.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also reaffirmed Tehrans determination to pursue its inalienable rights and called on Washington to forget the illusion of changing Irans position under pressure.
Afkham pointed to the visits by numerous diplomatic and economic delegations from different countries to Iran and urged the United States to accept realities of the 21st century and end its hostile efforts against Iran.
