TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Vice-President and Head of Department of Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki stressed the need to use both countries' full capacities to pave the ground for widening and deepening Tehran-Baghdad environment protection cooperation.
In a meeting in the Iraqi capital on Saturday, the two sides called for collective cooperation among five regional countries in fighting air pollution.
Ebtekar underlined that Iran is determined to bolster relations with its neighboring countries to resolve issues pertaining to environment protection.
Grounds are prepared for expansion of mutual cooperation, she said, calling for removal of existing obstacles to this end.
The Iranian official went on to say that to protect environment, special attention should be paid to impact of peace and environment on each other.
She further added that in order to seriously deal with the issue of dusts, the two sides should devise a mechanism to boost cooperation and set up joint peace and friendship parks.
The Iraqi premier, for his part, welcomed the visit of the Iranian official and hoped for broadening of mutual cooperation in fighting air pollution.
Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.
