TEHRAN, Jan. 25 (MNA) Irans representative in the IAEA has said there is no need for an IAEA office in Tehran.Reza Najafi told reporters that Iran had not received any proposal from the IAEA to open regional office in Tehran. We believe that given the scope of our nuclear activity, there is no need for the IAEA to open office in Tehran like in Japan and Canada, he added.
Asked whether Iran would accept such a proposal by the IAEA if any was made, Najafi told that the Agency had permanent offices in countries like Japan and Canada given their scope of nuclear activities. In some other countries, the Agency has non-permanent office where it does not have the status of an office, but where the IAEA representatives would reside when in mission in the given countries, he asserted.
About the expensed, Najafi told that the IAEA would pay for the travel costs of the inspectors and Iran would not pay any money. We believe that our limited scope of activity rules out the necessity that the IAEA opens an office in Tehran, he added.
Commenting on the IAEA Board ofGovernors meeting, he believed that the atmosphere in the meeting was conducive to the majority of countries agreement with the implementation of Geneva deal and finding of a comprehensive solution to the problem.
Najafi also pointed to the actions by the Powers in line with the implementation of the deal. Powers have enacted and notified necessary documentations to remove sanctions and now it is time for implementation, he said.
The secretariat of the deal implementation headed by Mr. Baidinejad will meet tomorrow to address the implementation of the deal in petrochemical, gold, and other sectors to assure that there is no barrier in the way of implementation, Najafi added.
Asked what Iran would do if there was any barriers, he told that he did not assume to be any barriers, since Powers are carrying out their commitments, but if any barrier faced, we would see if it was safely removable, he believed.
If the barrier is considerable, the joint commission would act to remove the political barrier, otherwise, Iran would respond in proper manner if the other side refused to remain committed to obligations, Najafi was quoted as saying.
