Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says the inspectors of the organization will visit Irans Gachin uranium mine in the coming days.Yukiya Amano announced the news in a Friday news conference in Vienna, but he did not give further details about the scheduled visit.
Earlier in the day, Amano told an extraordinary meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors that Tehran nuclear deal with the six major powers, which took effect on January 20, is an important step forward towards achieving a comprehensive solution to Irans nuclear issue.
Amano also asked IAEA member states to raise funds for the inspection of Irans nuclear activities, required under the landmark nuclear agreement.
On January 18, the IAEA said it needs an additional amount of about six million euros for activities related to the implementation of the deal.
On January 20, the United States and the European Union suspended part of the sanctions against Iran after the IAEA confirmed earlier in the day that Iran had halted 20-percent uranium enrichment under the Geneva agreement.
On January 12, Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - Russia, China, France, Britain, and the US - plus Germany agreed on January 20 as the date to start implementing the interim nuclear deal that the two sides struck in Geneva on November 24, 2013.
The accord is aimed at setting the stage for the full resolution of the decade-old standoff over Tehrans nuclear energy program.
