TEHRAN (ISNA)- Head of Iranian Chamber of Commerce Gholam Hossein Shafei and German ambassador to Iran Michael Baron Von Ungern-Sternberg expressed the hope that bilateral economic ties between the two countries could be developed after ease of western sanctions against Iran.
"German is located in central Europe and could be a transportation center for the whole European countries. The country enjoys good transportation infrastructure and could be a transit center from Iran to other European states," Shafei said in a meeting with Sternberg here in Tehran.

"The volume of our exports from Germany, especially the volume of industrial machinery exports was quite considerable in the past, but unfortunately Germany has lost the large market following the limitations."

He also said that a new atmosphere is now emerging in Iran and added that the measures of the new Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his constructive interaction with other countries have provided a new situation for the further expansion of ties between Iran and other countries.

He also expressed the hope that the level of financial and political exchanges between Iran and Germany could expand further and added that removing problems in consular section of German embassy in Iran could facilitate interaction between the two countries as well as exchange of delegations.

Head of Iranian Chamber of Commerce also added Iran can use German technology to accomplish technical and engineering projects in the regional countries through trilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Sternberg, for his part, expressed satisfaction over the current atmosphere in Iran since President Rouhani has taken office and said, "I have been living in Iran for 6 months and the atmosphere has improved considerably since Mr. Rouhani has taken the office. The atmosphere will be better when new agreements are signed."

"Economic ties between Iran and Germany has always been especial. What we can always do to facilitate bilateral ties is that we make our economic activists ready for presence in Iran."

He further called on Head of Iranian Chamber of Commerce to detect problems in German consulate in Iran and said, "The doors of Germany are open for economic activists and we will remove problems."

He also raised dissatisfaction about the level of Iran-Germany trade exchanges, but expressed hope that the two countries could grow financial cooperation from now on.
