TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian Arab Army and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) struck a landmark ceasefire agreement to launch a joint battle against the Al-Nusra Front and other non-Syrian armed rebel groups in Syria, informed sources announced on Monday.

The (FSA's) armed rebel groups and the Syrian army signed an agreement through the mediation of the National Reconciliation Committees and tribal leaders after a number of armed rebels from the FSA and the Al-Nusra Front surrendered themselves to the army with all their weapons, a Syrian army source told FNA on Monday.

According to this agreement, the armed groups affiliated to the FSA will fight against the Al-Nusra Front terrorists and the western-backed militants in Barzeh region, the source said.

On Monday, media reports said that tens of Syrian opposition forces have surrendered themselves to the Muslim countrys army in Damascus countryside in Southern Syria.

A sum of 250 Syrian opposition forces admitted defeat and surrendered themselves in Barzeh in Damascus countryside after being under the siege of the army and the national defense forces for more than one year, Russia Today satellite television channel reported.

The Syrian armed rebels surrendered themselves after the Syrian army and the armed rebel groups reached an agreement with the mediation of Syrias National Defense Committee.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
