Ihsanoglu praises ‘positive’ Iran-OIC cooperation

The outgoing secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has praised the ‘positive’ cooperation between Iran and the Muslim body over the past years.

Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu made the remarks in a meeting with Iran’s permanent envoy to the OIC, Hamidreza Dehqani, on the sidelines of a farewell ceremony held in the Saudi city of Jeddah in the honor of the outgoing OIC head on Sunday.
During the talks, Ihsanoglu further thanked the Iranian nation and government for their cooperation with the Muslim organization during his nine-year term in office.
The outgoing OIC chief also wished the Islamic Republic success in all regional and international areas.

Ihsanoglu has been holding the position since January 2005. His successor, Iyad bin Amin Madani, who has formerly headed the Saudi miniseries of Haj and information, will formally take office on 1 January, 2014.

The OIC, which was established in 1969, has 57 member states spread over four continents. The body also has a permanent delegation to the UN.

The Islamic association says it is “the collective voice of the Muslim world” and works to “safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony.”
