TEHRAN, Dec. 21 (MNA) Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharifsaid on Thursday that Islamabad places strong emphasis on friendly relations with all neighboring countries, including Afghanistan India and Iran based on mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.He made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Islamabad on the sidelines of the one-day conference of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation.
Sharif said his country would continue to support all efforts that promote peace and stability in the region. He also congratulated Iran on the recently concluded nuclear deal with six world powers and expressed hope that the process of constructive engagement would continue.
Emphasizing the need for strengthening relations among D-8 countries the prime minister said the D-8 holds great potential to build on synergies between the eight leading Islamic countries.
For his part, the Iranian foreign minister said, "We are committed to enhancing our cooperation with the democratic leadership of Pakistan. We will enhance bilateral cooperation and make it stronger."
Zarif said Iran would support all initiatives of Pakistan to eliminate terrorism.
In addition, Sharif accepted an invitation extended by Zarif on behalf of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to visit Iran in the near future.
The Iranian diplomat also held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu and discussed some issues of mutual and international concern.
The foreign ministers from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Turkey participated in the one-day conference in Islamabad.
