Asia Society convenes meeting on future of Iran-US relations
TEHRAN (Tasnim) A New York-based nonprofit educational institution, known as Asia Society, convened a meeting on Tuesday to take a deeper look at the relations between Iran and the US, and discuss the future of their ties.
The Tuesday meeting in New York City, attended by some 300 individuals, saw a number of former and current officials, from both the Islamic Republic and the US, delivering lectures at the gathering.


Among the visiting dignitaries were Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations Mohammad Khazaei and the countrys former nuclear negotiator Hossein Mousavian.

Mousavian served as Irans lead nuclear negotiator (2003-05), head of the foreign relations committee of Iran's National Security Council (1997-2005), and Irans ambassador to Germany (1990-97).

Moreover, former US nuclear negotiator Robert Einhorn and former US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas R. Pickering also attended the meeting.

Einhorn is a senior fellow with the Arms Control Initiative at the Brookings Institution. During his career at the US Department of State, he served as Assistant Secretary for Nonproliferation during the Clinton administration and as the Secretary of States Special Advisor for Nonproliferation and Arms Control during the Obama administration.

Thomas R. Pickering also served as US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, and US Ambassador to the Russian Federation, India, Israel, El Salvador, Nigeria, Jordan, and the United Nations.

Asia Society is an educational organization dedicated to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening partnerships among peoples, leaders and institutions of Asia and the United States in a global context, according to the organizations official website.
