Tehran, Dec 18, IRNA The Islamic Republic of Iran is host to the second largest refugee population in the world, hosting over 890,000 registered Afghan and Iraqi refugees.
The generous dlrs 106,952 donation by the Government of the Czech Republic will help United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees assist vulnerable refugees in Iran, a news release issued by the UNHCR said Wednesday.
The Islamic Republic of Iran and UNHCR are grateful for the interest that the Government of the Czech Republic has shown regarding refugees.
The initiation of the Czech Embassy in Iran to visit UNHCR projects on education, livelihood and health of refugees is most laudable. Most recently a visit by the ambassador and his deputy to some of these projects in Isfahan province has further depicted best practices of how donations are used to ameliorate the living conditions of refugees in Iran.
Bernard Doyle, UNHCR Iran Representative said, The motivation and continuous commitment of the Czech Republic to humanitarian affairs will go a long way towards providing better support and protection for the refugees residing in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This contribution will be used partly towards better health services for refugees, furthering UNHCRs collaboration with the Bureau for Aliens & foreign Immigrants Affaires in providing vulnerable refugees, including those suffering from special diseases, with health Insurance; and partly enhancing their livelihood capabilities by providing refugees with technical and vocational skills trainings, a matter of key
importance for sustaining their present living condition and eventually upon their return home.
