Over 20 people have been killed and several others injured in a series of bombings and attacks across Iraq, medical and police sources say.
The deadliest attack on Monday took place in Baiji, 180 kilometers (112 miles) north of Baghdad, where four bombers wearing explosive belts took over a police station, leaving several officers dead and wounded.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but Iraqi al-Qaeda, which frequently carries out coordinated bombings, is believed to be behind the bombing.

Meanwhile, casualties have also been reported in two separate explosions in the capital, where at least 14 people were killed and 34 others wounded.

On Sunday, nineteen people, including a female TV presenter, were killed in a series of terrorist attacks across Iraq.

A family of five also died after several bombs went off near their house in the Khanaqin area of Diyala Province on the same day.

In the northern province of Kirkuk, gunmen killed two people, while two others died in three explosions in the Tuz Khurmatu area of nearby Salaheddin Province.

Violence has surged across Iraq in recent months, reaching its highest level since 2008.

On October 23, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki blamed the al-Qaeda militant group for killing thousands of people in Iraq, saying that the group is �destroying the houses of citizens and killing them, and blowing up government departments.�
