Nineteen people, including a female TV presenter, have been killed in a fresh wave of terrorist attacks across Iraq, officials say.According to local media reports, Nawras al-Nuaimi was shot on Sunday near her home in the Iraqi city of Mosul. She was the fifth journalist killed in the violence-hit city since October.
In another incidenton Sunday, a family of five died after several bombs went off near their house in the Khanaqin area of Diyala province.
Bomb attacks mainly targeting Shia areas in and around Iraqi capital Baghdad also left at least nine people dead and 27 injured.
In the northern province of Kirkuk, gunmen killed two people, while two others died in three explosions in the Tuz Khurmatu area of nearby Salaheddin province.
In October, al-Sharqiya televisions correspondent Mohammed Karim al-Badrani and cameraman Mohammed Ghanem, as well as al-Mosuliyah TV cameraman Bashar Abdulqader Najm were killed in Mosul.
Another journalist named Alaa Edwar was shot dead in the city in November.
The media rights watchdog, Reporters Without Borders, had said earlier in 2013 that many Iraqi journalists are routinely exposed to threats, murder attempts, attacks, difficulties obtaining permission, denial of access, confiscation of equipment and so on.
Iraq says al-Qaeda-linked militants have launched an open war in the country and they want to push the country into chaos.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has blamed al-Qaeda for killing thousands of people in Iraq, saying that it is destroying the houses of citizens and killing them, and blowing up government departments.
