GCC summit''s final communique touches upon Iran, Syria, establish Gulf police

KUWAIT, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- The draft final communique of the 34th GCC summit includes a host of issues like relations with Iran and its nuclear program, the situations in Syria and Egypt, as well as the Middle East peace process, a senior Kuwaiti official said Tuesday.
The draft final communique includes a "positive indication for the relations with Iran," Foreign Undersecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah told KUNA following a preparatory meeting of the GCC Foreign Ministers.

The communique, he added, "welcomes ... the preliminary agreement that was signed between the P5+1 countries with Iran" in Geneva on November 24.

It also includes the vision of the GCC "to addressing the situation in Syria and the participation in the Geneva II conference to pave way for formation of a transitional Syrian government in line with the Geneva I communique, he said.

Al-Jarallah said the final communique affirmed support for the choices of the Egyptian people, as well as importance of preserving security and stability of the Arab country.

There is an indication on the Middle East peace process, noted Al-Jarallah where the six GCC countries affirmed that just peace could not be achieved but with complete Israeli withdrawal from the Arab territories occupied in 1967, establishing the independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital in line with relevant UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative, approved in an Arab Summit in 2002.

Al-Jarallah said the GCC summit would establish a unified military command, an academy for strategic and security studies, and a Gulf police.

The final communique also include water linkage and security, the railway project, organization of conferences and workshops for the youth.

Al-Jarallah KUWAIT -- Meanwhile, Al-Jarallah said the Foreign Ministers in the second session of their preparatory meeting have concurred on the final draft communique and resolutions of the 34th Summit.

"There a consensus among the GCC foreign ministers on every item relatied to the joint Gulf action in the final communique," Al-Jarallah told KUNA.

He noted that the 34th Summit was held in Kuwait at a critical time and amid instability in Arab region.

"These circumstances show the importance of the Gulf leaders' meeting to discuss joint Gulf action as well as international and regional developments," he said.

The Summit is expected to ratify "Kuwait Declaration" which will focus on the Gulf efforts and resolutions to achieve full economic integration, he unveiled.

"Kuwait Declaration would provide a springboard for future economic cooperation among GCC member states and identify resolutions and measures that will formulate the joint Gulf action in this regard." He went on to say that Kuwait Declaration comes amid huge challenges and difficulties facing the regional and global economies.
