Iranian MPs due in Pakistan next week to attend APA meeting

TEHRAN (FNA)- An Iranian parliamentary delegation plans to take part in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Pakistan next week, a parliamentary official said.


Iranian Parliament Speakers top advisor for international affairs Hossein Sheikholeslamsaid that the Iranian parliamentary delegation, to be headed by Vice-Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Hassan Aboutorabi Fard, will be present in the APA summit to be held on December 8-10.

Sheikholeslam said that Pakistan will receive the rotating presidency of the APA from Syria during this year's summit.

"Each country's parliament, based on its population, has some representatives in the APA," said the official, and added that Iran has five representatives in the APA who pursue its related affairs during the year.

He pointed out that several especial guests from various countries are to participate in the APA summit, including senior Iranian lawmaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel who is one of the founders of the APA.

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly was set up in 2006 at the Seventh Session of the Association of Asian Parliamentary for Peace (AAPP). In other words, the APA is continuation of an organization which was established in 1999. It has 41 member states and 17 observers.
