Tehran, Nov 16, IRNA � German Ambassador to Tehran Michael Freiherr�von Ungern-Sternberg said the sanctions imposed on Iran are damaging the interests of his country.
Talking to IRNA on Saturday, he stressed that trade ties between Iran and Germany will get to its old track immediately when the sanctions are removed or eased.


Noting that the sanctions hurt not just Iran but Germany as well, he said he is not happy with the declining trend of mutual trade exchanges.

According to the ambassador, Germany exported euro 1,200 million worth of goods to Iran during the first half of 2013 and imported euro 175 million worth of commodities from Iran which shows a fall of 25 percent compared to the same period last year.

Commenting on the latest round of nuclear talks between Iran and 5+1, he said despite some differences in opinions, the negotiations shows tangible progress.

He further noted that the talks have so far witnessed a positive trend and said that he was optimistic about the outcomes of the negotiations.

Asked to comment on the most important obstacles in the way of talks, he said the international community wants to make sure about the non-military purposes of Iran�s nuclear program and that would be achieved only through trust building moves.

The German envoy further welcomed diplomatic solutions and dialogue to settle issues and said his country welcomes establishment of ties between Tehran and Washington.

He believed that such contacts between Iran and the US should take place at various levels and not only at foreign ministers level.

The German ambassador also highlighted Iran�s key role in settlement of crisis in Syria and stressed the importance of diplomacy to end the present situation in that country.
