Islamabad, Nov 14, IRNA - At least 15 people, including children, journalists and security officials, were injured in two explosions near an Imambargah in Karachis North Nazimabad early Thursday, local media reported.Initial reports suggest that an Imambargah near Pahar Ganj area was the apparent target of the unknown attackers. The blasts were so loud that they were heard from far distances. Windows of the nearby buildings were also shattered.
A vehicle was reportedly destroyed in the first explosion. Upon clearance by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and security forces, the second blast occurred at the same location.
According to police, around half a kilo of explosives were used in the blasts. However, nature of the explosions was yet to be ascertained.
Teh injured victims were taken to several hospitals around the city including the nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Meanwhile taking notice of the incident, the Governor Sindh Ishratul Ibad Khan has ordered security to be put on red-alert in the city.
The Shi?a Ulema Council condemned the blasts, demanding immediate action against the terrorists.
Allama Jaffar professed that Pahaar Ganj was a sensitive area where Shi?as had been targeted before.
Fear of renewed violence during Muharram has led the government to tighten security in all parts of the country including Karachi.
