‘FSA militants recruiting at Jordan refugee camp’

Foreign-backed militants from the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) are reportedly recruiting people at a refugee camp in Jordan to join their fight against the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
The FSA militants called on refugees in the Zaatari camp to undergo their trainings.

The recruitment came despite a United Nations’ ban on militant activities inside the Syrian camp. Authorities in Jordan are also opposed to such moves.

"If anyone is recruited in Zaatari, we will take action because this is a violation of the law," a Jordanian cabinet official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said.

The militants said that they were seeking to bolster ranks to step up attacks against Syrian government forces.

The Zaatari camp is located 16 kilometers from the Syrian border and houses more than 100-thousand Syrian refugees.

Abu Salim, the head of the FSA’s military council in southern Syria, said a 40-day training camp for militants is conducted at a location in Jordan or southern parts of Syria.

This came as the Syrian army managed to make new gains on Monday in the key neighborhood of Barzeh, located north of the capital, Damascus, pushing out the foreign-backed Takfiri militants in the area.

The Syrian army units also recaptured most of the areas around the International Airport in the northern city of Aleppo.

On Sunday, the Syrian soldiers regained full control of a strategic base, dubbed Base 80, near Aleppo International Airport following days of heavy clashes with the foreign-sponsored Takfiri groups.

The Arab country has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011.

The United Nations says more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced in the foreign-sponsored turmoil. The world body has recently warned that over nine million people in Syria are in need of urgent humanitarian aid.
