Paris, Nov 6, IRNA Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Wednesday that Iran is ready to use all its national and international capacities as the head of Non-Aligned Movement to help The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization carry out its activities.
Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova on the sidelines of the 37th session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris.
The foreign minister underlined the role of culture as a main factor for sustainable development, saying UNESCOs historical duty in this regard is of significance.
He expressed pleasure with UNESCOs contribution to inter-cultural dialogue, voicing Irans readiness to further strengthen the position of the UN cultural body.
In the meantime, the UNESCO director-general said that Iran could help the organization carry out its activities and pursue its new medium-term strategy.
Irina Bokova also briefed Zarif on UNESCOs 8-year plan for cultural activities.
Zarif, Irans top nuclear negotiator arrived in Paris on Tuesday to attend the 37th session of UNESCO General Conference as a special guest.
He is scheduled to leave Paris for Geneva where Iran and the sextet (the US, France, Russia, Britain and China plus Germany) will hold detailed talks on nuclear dispute on November 7-8.
