Iranian ambassador: Israel’s influence in caucasus exaggerated

TEHRAN (FNA)- Israel's influence in the Caucasus is exaggerated, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen said.

The Iranian envoy said one of the tricks Israel and Western countries use is portraying Iran as a threat to countries in the Central Asia and the Caucasus.

"Iran has to use the potential of its neighbours, in particular the Central Asia and the Caucasus, in order to be successful in its foreign policy," the ambassador said, Trend reported.

"Unfortunately, sometimes Iran is presented to these countries as a threat. This is an Israeli and Western trick - to present Iran as a source of threat to the countries of the Central Asia and the Caucasus, and thus to keep Iran in tension," the ambassador said.

In reality, relations between Israel and Iran's neighbouring states are exaggerated by the Israeli media outlets, Mohsen Pak Ayeen said.

"If we pay attention to the news on the impact of Israel in the region, we can see that they are all spread by the Israeli press," the ambassador cautioned.

"They exaggerate the question of whether or not Iran is a threat to regional states. They also exaggerate Israel's relations with these countries. Information that commodities turnover between Israel and a number of neighbouring countries is being measured in billions is also untrue, in reality this figure is much lower," the Iranian Ambassador concluded.
